Bandana
This group from Buenos Aires in Argentina were formed in 2001. Their first album 'Bandana' sold two million copies and it was followed two more, which were just as successful. The girl group Bandana disbanded in 2004.

Bat For Lashes
Founded by British singer/ songwriter Natasha Khan the Bat For Lashes played the first big show in London in 2005. The first album 'Fur and Gold' was recorded in London and Brighton.

The Cheetah Girls
Inspired by a book series with the same name The Cheetah Girls were created by the Walt Disney Company for a movie in 2003. The characters have evolved into a highly successful girl group with several hits to their name.

This short-lived group were formed on the French reality TV show 'Popstars' in 2003. They disbanded in July 2004.

Eden's Crush
Another girl group created by a TV show, Eden's crush were formed in 2002 by the WB Television network in Los Angeles. The group disbanded within a year but one member, Nicole Scherzinger went on to perform with The Pussycat Dolls.

The band started out in Sapporo, Japan in 1999. Zone disbanded on 1ST April 2005 and their final song at the Nippon Budokan concert was their best-known hit 'Secret Base'.

Atomic Kitten
This British trio issued their first single 'Right Now' in 1999. They have enjoyed success across the world and have had songs featured on movie soundtracks. Although they have made few appearances and released no new music in recent years, a single release is planned for January 2008.

Destiny's Child
Following their first recording contract with Columbia Records in 1997 Destiny's Child were to become ranked by the industry magazine Billboard as one of the best musical trio's of all time. The group formally split in 2005.

This rock band from Michigan, features two female members lead singer Rachel Nagy and guitarist Mary Ramirez. Their first full-length album 'Mink Rat or Rabbit' was released in 1998. The Detroit Cobras continue to record and tour.

Originally a dance troupe The Pussycat Dolls were recast as a musical girl group in 2003. The group is part of a 'brand', which includes The Pussycat Dolls Lounge in Cesar's Palace, Las Vegas, and a clothing range. They had their first hit single in 2005 with 'Don't Cha' and continue to perform.

The Spice Girls
This five-girl group from the UK had worldwide success following the release of their debut single 'Wannabe' in 1996. There was no formal break up, but The Spice Girls ceased to record or perform together in 2000. A Greatest hits album was released in November 2007, and a world tour is to follow.

A British pop trio whose original line-up came from London, they issued their first album 'One Touch' in 2000. Despite two personnel changes The Sugababes continue to enjoy continuing chart hits and tour to sell-out crowds.

An R&B, hip-hop and pop blending group, they were formed in 1991. TLC had phenomenal success, selling some 45 million records worldwide and winning twelve Grammy awards. The group disbanded in 2005.

This girl group was formed in Vancouver, Canada in 1991. There were two personnel changes and two albums issued during the groups short career. 'West End Girls' was released in 1991 and 'We Belong Together' in 1993. West End Girls broke up in 1993.

Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada this girl group founded in the mid 1990's is still active today. The trio's combination of fine voices and a R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop repertoire has won them many fans. 702 have so far released three albums, the most recent being 'Star' in 2003.

Bananarama
This girl group from the UK were founded in 1979 but found success with the single 'Really Saying Something' in 1982. They had several hits throughout the 80's since when their appearances and releases have become sporadic. Bananarama's most recent album 'Greatest Hits and More More More' came out in May 2007.

Bangles
The girl group from Los Angeles formed in 1981 and were originally called The Supersonic Bangs. However it was as The Bangles that they found success. They had hits throughout the 1980's including 'Manic Monday' and 'Eternal Flame'. They broke up in 1988 but reformed in 2000, and their first official live DVD 'Return To Bangleonia' was released in August 2007.

The Cover Girls
The first single from this US girl group 'Show Me' was released in 1987 and sold over 500,000 copies. The Cover girls went on to release five albums including 1998's 'Greatest Hits'. The group was off the scene for a while but reformed in 2001.

This dance band formed in 1984. They had a number of hit records and a few personnel changes before disbanding in 1996. Exposé got together again in 2006 and continue to tour.

Mel and Kim
Sisters Mel and Kim Appleby shot to fame in the late 1980's. Their most memorable single was 1987's 'Respectable' that went to #1 in the UK, and also in the US Dance Charts. While suffering from cancer of the spine, Mel died of pneumonia in 1988, tragically bringing the short but successful career of Mel and Kim to an end.

This Japanese group had over fifty members working in rotation and three offshoot groups evolved from the main band. Onyanko Club or Kitten Club in English were popular in Japan from their formation in 1985 to their break-up in 1987.

Salt-n-Pepa
This US girl group released their debut Album 'Hot Cool and Vicious' in 1986. After more than a decade making records Salt-n-Pepa embarked on their final live tour in 1999. They are still in the public eye however, as the reality TV show, The Salt-n-Pepa Show began to air on VH1 in October 2007.

Shakespears Sisters
This duo formed in 1988. Siobhan Fahey had been a singer/songwriter with Bananarama, and formed the group with Marcella Detroit a French musician. Shakespeares Sister split in 1993, although Fahey continued to use the name as a solo artist.
