In 1961 the girl duo's The Ordettes and The Del Capris merged to form The BlueBelles. Despite the unique and impressive voice of lead singer Patti Labelle, they only achieved moderate success. A high point was their cover of Rodgers and Hammersteins' 'You'll Never Walk Alone' reaching #34 in both the pop and R&B charts in 1964. It was only later in their career and renamed LaBelle that the group got the recognition their talents deserved. In 1975 they had a million selling smash hit with 'Lady Marmalade'.
