  • Arabesque
    This German disco group were established in 1977. They were very popular in Japan and Russia through the early 1980's. Arabesque split in 1984, although an original member toured with a new line-up using the Arabesque name as recently as 2006.

  • Baccara
    The female duo of former flamenco artists from Spain emerged in 1977 to have a major hit with their debut single 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie'. Baccara split in 1980 after four album and several single and compilation releases. The two original members of the group, Mayte Mateos and Maria Mendiola, separately continue to use the name Baccara with new partners.

  • Dolly Dots
    This Dutch girl group had several hit records between 1979 and 1988. The Dolly Dots broke up in 1988 but there have since been a musical based on their career, TV specials and a Reunion concert series from 25th to 27th May 2007. We may yet hear more from Dolly Dots.

  • The Go-Go's
    Although formed in 1978, the Go-Go's rose to fame in the early 1980's, and had double platinum hit with their debut album 'Beauty And The Beat'. Although disbanded in 1985, the group have reunited for concerts, most recently in 2006.

    This trio from The Netherlands was established in 1977 and by the time of their break up in 1981 had achieved major success throughout mainland Europe, South Africa and Mexico. Luv went on to issue greatest hits compilation albums and following previous reunions still perform live and on TV.

    This Dutch duo started out in 1979. Maywood went on to release more than 30 singles during their career. A 4 CD boxed set of their recordings was released exclusively in The Netherlands in 2006.

    This American Grammy Award winning trio from Oakland, California performed together for more than three decades. Their first Album 'The Pointer Sisters' was released in 1973. They had major hits throughout the 1980’s including 'Slow Hand' 'I'm So Excited' and 'Automatic'. The Pointer Sisters have won several awards, but have not released any new material in recent years.

    A girl group from Germany, Silver Convention were active between 1974 and 1979. They represented Germany at the 1977 Eurovision song contest but only managed to come in 8th place in the final.

    This Dutch trio were very popular in the 1980's, having 6 European hits. Star Sisters were a pop dance group who also did nostalgia covers, most notably of The Andrews Sisters, singing harmonies from the 1940's and 1950's.

    Girl Group originally formed in Orange, New Jersey in 1961. They were very successful in the early sixties, touring the USA and Europe in 1964.

  • Bluebelles
    In 1961 the girl duo's The Ordettes and The Del Capris merged to form The BlueBelles. Despite the unique and impressive voice of lead singer Patti Labelle, they only achieved moderate success. A high point was their cover of Rodgers and Hammersteins' 'You'll Never Walk Alone' reaching #34 in both the pop and R&B charts in 1964. It was only later in their career and renamed LaBelle that the group got the recognition their talents deserved. In 1975 they had a million selling smash hit with 'Lady Marmalade'.

    The girl group who came from different parts of Brooklyn, New York, was one of the most popular sixties groups. They were taken up by Phil Spector and their 1963 single 'Then He Kissed Me' established Spector's famous 'Wall of Sound'.

    Martha Reeves joined the girl group the Fascinations in 1959. The group became Martha and the Vandellas and signed with Berry Gordy in September 1962. The group had several hits including 'Nowhere to Run' which reached #8 in the pop and #5 in the R&B charts in 1965 and 'Jimmy Mack' #10 pop and #1 R&B in 1967.

  • The Marvelettes
    Girl Group had the first hit in the summer of 1961 with 'Please Mr Postman'. The Marvelettes had continued success until 1968, but possibly made a big mistake when in 1964 they turned down the Holland-Dozier-Holland classic 'Baby Love' which then became a massive transatlantic hit for The Supremes.

    The three Paris Sisters were successful child stars in the 50's, becoming a mature girl group when introduced to their new producer, a young Phil Spector in 1961. Their best known single 'I Love How You Love Me' reached #5 in the charts in October that year.

    The song 'Angel Baby' written by 15-year-old Rosie Hamlin and recorded in a makeshift studio in a former aircraft hanger in San Marcos, California was a hit for Rosie and the Originals in 1960. It was their only hit single and the group disbanded soon afterwards.

    This girl group started out in Queens, New York in the early sixties. The Shangri La's had several hits before their break up in 1968. The most famous of these is 'Leader of the Pack' which was released at the end of 1964. This song was a UK hit three times, also going high in the charts in 1972 and 1976.

    The group signed to Berry Gordy's Motown in 1961. By the summer of 1964 they had released eight singles and none had reached the top twenty. This changed with 'Where Did Our Love Go' that went to #1 in the pop and R&B charts, and became a hit around the world.

    Formed in 1961 the group reached #38 in the pop and #24 in the R&B charts with their single of the same year 'Better tell Him No'. The Starlets subsequently toured with other artists including Jackie Wilson and Gladys Knight and the Pips. They broke up at the end of 1962.

    The group were signed by the publishing firm genius Inc in 1964. Their major hit was 1965's 'A Lover's Concerto' which sold over a million copies reaching #2 in the US and #5 in the UK that year. The Toys last hit 'Sealed With A Kiss' was recorded in 1968.

    This group got their break in 1962 when they signed to the Motown subsidiary V.I.P. and recorded the #1 hit single 'Needle In A Haystack'. The Velvelettes continue to tour with their original line-up today.
